Early Years Foundation Stage

The EYFS is a new framework for learning, development and care for children from birth to five. It means being sure that each individual child is learning through high quality play, that's tailored to them. Children can develop at their own pace, having fun, making friends and learning as they play.

Prior to implementation, it had been developed with parents, carers, early years and childcare providers and academics. It's brought together their experience in a clear, straightforward way.

The child is at the centre of the EYFS. Key workers at our nurseries will work with each child and pick up on their interests and abilities, and build on them through play. For example, thinking about fun ways to help develop their langauage skills and what will encourage creativity whilst giving them the support they need and ensuring that all children are enjoying learning through play.

At Happy Child Nurseries you'll find parental noticeboards dedicated to the EYFS and information packs at the reception areas for parents wanting to find out more. We also encourage parents and carers to talk to key workers about their child's development at the nurseries. Happy Child have also devised 'Learning Journey's' which is a folder that captures what each child is learning, how they're developing and what they are interested in - based on observing what the child is doing rather than testing.
