THE DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES IN THE NURSERY

The nursery children enjoy varied activities throughout the day.
IN THE GARDEN

The Nursery children learned about growth and were helping the gardener prepare the soil and put in new plants for the spring.
SPECIAL EVENTS - VISIT TO THE LONDON TRANSPORT MUSEUM

The children in the Nursery and Reception classes had a great day at the London Transport Museum. They had much fun on the 'olden day' buses and trains and especially enjoyed trying to 'drive a bus'.
The children joined the actors in trying to recreate travel on London Transport over one hundred years ago.
HALLOWEEN

Guests and teachers helped the Nursery children carve their pumpkins for Halloween. 'Yuuukkk!' was the most commonly used exclamation, when the children had to put their hands in the 'mush' to get the seeds out. They saved some seeds to plant in the garden for next year.
NURSERY CHILDREN ON THE COMPUTER
Our nursery children had fun on the computer and produced some excellent super computer generated artwork. Please visit our Art Gallery.
ART GALLERY
Pupils at St Nicholas School have been creating fantastic pieces of art to reflect themes that they are learning about. Please visit our Art Gallery.
TEDDY BEAR FUN DAY Wednesday 24 June
Pupils in all years have been busy producing posters for the forthcoming Teddy Bear Fun Day. Posters had to include the event's title, time and date and what's happening on the day. A secret ballot at the school will take place at St Nicholas to choose the best poster! Please see a selection of the posters.
PADDINGTON BEAR VISIT

Paddington Bear paid St Nicholas School a visit to thank the pupils for raising just over £930 during their fundraiser last June. Paddington is the mascot of the charity Action Research and 'St Nicks' has supported this charity since 1998, this is our 12th year.
We have raised well over £7000 over the years. During the past few years 'St Nicks' has been among the top 10 fundraisers countrywide, even coming first one year. This year Lizzie Chapman from Action Research rewarded 'St Nicks' with a complete set of Paddington books. We raise the funds by holding a 'Teddy Bear Fun Day' towards the end
of June, round about Paddington's birthday. This year's fun is scheduled for Wednesday 24th June. The children dress up in bear- related clothes at the cost of £1 and bring bear-related food such as marmalade sandwiches (or now marmite). We sell sweets, cakes, drinks and biscuits and have art sessions in which the children make bear badges of plastic compound, finger puppets, design posters and T- shirts. As well as the worksheet and stickers provided in a goodie bag from Action Research, we get a Paddington Bear, which we raffle off with many other things. Weather permitting, we take our bouncing
castle out. Of course all this comes at a price and the children all support this cause enthusiastically. Our greatest fundraising effort, however, comes from the parents. The children take home sponsor forms and pester their friends and families to support our
cause. It never ceases to amaze me how much a small school such as 'St Nicks' with about 75 pupils manages to raise and we are most grateful to all the parents, without whose support this event would not be possible.

OUR SUPER FUN AND ACTIVE PGL TRIP

Pupils in Years 3-6 had a super time at the PGL centre in Baschurch, Shropshire. The children sampled various activities they would not otherwise have tried at home, such as Pony Trekking, Climbing, Archery, Rifle Shooting, Challenge Course and many more. We all had a great time and look forward to next year.
NSPCC SPEAKER VISITS ST NICHOLAS'

We were lucky enough to be visited by a speaker from the NSPCC this month who spoke to different year groups about cruelty to children. It was a very informative and interactive day and the pupils helped to raise money for the cause by having a sponsored spelling competition! We raised a total of £640.99 for the NSPCC (this amount will pay for 127 calls to the Children's Helpline!)
CELEBRATING VALENTINE'S DAY

Reception Class children making heart shaped biscuits for Valentine's Day.

A selection of cards by Year 5 and 6 pupils in celebration of Valentine's Day.
WE LOVE THE SNOW!

The Nursery children are enjoying the snow and building snowmen.
ROAD SAFETY

The topic in the Nursery for the first half of term has beenTransport. PC Chris Whelan and Community Officer Anthony Evans came to talk to the children about safety on the road. They displayed an infinite amount of patience in answering questions fired at them by the children, who obviously enjoyed their visit.
